It’s a fair criticism of law. The riposte might be that economics is about understanding, while law is about coercion. It is fitting that a coercive enterprise is more limited in its horizons; its imagination and its danger wax and wane in concert.

Really? I find people complain that economists want to quantify "sacred" things as values - and end up looking at the utility function of love, motherhood, and homeland. We must be talking to different people!
