To deal w/ Q&A askers who ask overly long questions, anyone tried time-limited microphones, that say turn off after say one minute?

Maybe the mike doesn’t turn on again for 30 sec, so asker doesn’t just restart mike timer to “finish” question.

I am very fond of having questions asked via twitter or a similar medium - they are both short and one can gather a bunch and select the good ones.

Insist on a two sentence rule. One of which must end with a question mark It works wonders!

At EA Global, questions are submitted to a moderator via an app. The moderator then reads up the questions they find best. I think that system has some merit (though depends on context).

If I recall correctly, there's also an up/downvote system on the app where conferencegoers can indicate they'd prefer some questions to be asked, though the moderator isn't obliged to ask the highest-voted

I heard using a mic that shocks askers who go over a minute works wonders.

If you buy the mic that shocks the asker after one minute now, you can get 20% off a chair that shocks the presenter or speaker if they avoid answering questions directly.

What about a microphone that drops 5 decibels every 10 seconds. Incentivise people summarising their question at beginning and adding more detail until you interrupt. Like how newspaper publish articles with most important paragraphs first.

A Mic that turns off, and starts a 5 second timer count down that emits a taser blast. Now we’re talking.

Just empower the sound board operator to push the slider down to zero after "x" seconds. Or the moderator can give a hand signal that's been agreed upon in advance. Once the audience catches on it will be hilarious.

mics should immediately cut off if the first word out of the questioner isn't "who" "what" "when" "where" or "why"
