    This story is everything you need to know about non-fiction writing.

    His best is this. It's also, I think, the best long feature ever written. Yes, it is difficult subject matter. But the execution (the ending!) is life-affirming and spirit-lifting. It is journalism as empathy. As an exercise of understanding.
