    Avg oppo ldr approval, 1st yr (MORI): Foot -23 Kinnock +4 Smith +4 Blair +25 Hague -18 IDS -5 Howard -6 Cameron +3 Ed M -3 Corbyn -18

  2. The National is all over the place tonight at the idea of a political party promoting one part of the United Kingdom.

  3. I'm very glad we run these debunk stories but I'm also sometimes baffled that we have to run these debunk stories.

  4. Nancy Astor, the first woman to take her seat in Parliament, was first elected at the Plymouth Sutton by-election 97 years ago today

  5. 'The Labour vote is solid' says on

  6. Reducing UKIP voters to cardboard cutout racist Orcs is another form of left comfort zone politics

  7. Also UKIP voters don't actually expect them to ever get their hands on NHS. They're voting to force reaction from main parties

  8. This will resonate with UKIP leaning voters who have for years experienced Lab uncomfortably changing subject away from their concerns.

  9. 10/10 UKIP know this, of course. So they're delighted Lab banging on about NHS. They will respond with "out of touch Lab scaremongering"

  10. 9/9 So today's blizzard of Lab tweets about Nuttall and NHS is one big neon sign reading "WE STILL DON'T GET IT WE ARE IN THE COMFORT ZONE".

  11. 8/? Lab activists, pols don't actually want to talk about. UKIP leaning voters know this. Lab voters know this. Talking NHS reinforces it.

  12. 7/? But NHS is useless as response to UKIP precisely *because* its comfort zone for them. What UKIP voters actually want is a bunch of stuff

  13. 6/? This generally got awkward silence in response. Lab ppl want to make NHS the solution to UKIP problem because its comfort zone for them

  14. 5/? Most importantly immigration and nationalism (Can probably add defence and leader that list under Corbyn).

  15. 4/? I'd point out the issues UKIP considerers cared about were not the ones where they agree with Lab but they ones where they didn't

  16. 3/? I'd point out most Lab to UKIP considerers already preferred Lab to UKIP massively on NHS. Didn't make any difference.

  17. 2/? Everyone would nod eagerly along. "They are Thatcherites. True Labour voters will never back them once we expose this".

  18. Whenever I presented to Lab ppl s/one wld say: "UKIP want to privatise NHS. Exposing that will destroy them". 1/?

  19. That moment when you realise shouting "BLAIRITE SCUM OUT!!" in every meeting hasn't delivered the expected results...
