A dozen journalists covered the claim, and not one did a passable job. Hundreds of thousands of people, maybe millions, ended up misinformed due to their professional negligence.

Apparently publishing articles as Google Docs is dumb so here's a Medium blog post version of this:https://medium.com/@robertwiblin/a-widely-publicised-trial-claimed-to-show-a-4-and-5-day-work-week-are-equally-productive-655dac3aee94 …

And so, is the worker pay prorated to increase the 4-day pay to equal the 5-day pay or is this just another gimmick to screw workers. Friken efficiency experts will say equal work can get done. Same with less workers by attrition, just give their work to other workers & no raise.
-
The article answers this.
-
T/Y More detail than expected. Worked in 2 different states during reduced work week periods always for less money - it was a cost saving measure. More time is valuable to any worker, but not at the cost of reduced wages. Upsets the budget.
-
Their wages were not reduced.
-
T/Y yes, maintaining wages was positive & would make the 4-day prospect welcome.

The biggest weakness, IMHO, was the shortness of experiment. Two months during which the staff knew they were being evaluated is too short.
-
Right, Luis, it's the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawthorne_effect … Both the brevity and observation are deadly to validity.

It's a ridiculous claim. Some people might get the same amount of work done. Others might not. Depending on thousands of different variables. But that doesn't make a good story.

More interesting maybe is the PPP (GDP per capita) of countries such as the Netherlands where the work day is a strict 9 to 5 (at 5pm people pack and walk out the offices).

Very good points. This sort of thing happens way too often.

Thank you for this important work - facts matter! It’s a shame that journalism now concentrated more on the headline, and less at the type of work you’ve done

From my personal experience I find to be as or even more productive if I can do the work in 6 hours straight instead of 8 hours plus 1 hour of brakes. The fatigue and annoyance accumulates too fast during the week with longer work days.

1)who did this "experiment? 2) what was yhe consistency of employees? All men, all women or a mixed bag? 3) do the "researchers" have political affiliation? Did they get incentives in the form of grants and the like? If so from whom? 4) what companies participated? Sector?
-
5) if they refer to reference material which ones are they and is there a bias( i suspect heavy left leaning ref. Mat.) 6) always follow the money
-
Now i work for a certain zurich firm, financial sector, high up in the organisation. We tested which set up was most productive: 1)all male group,2)all female group3) mixed group. All male group was most productive, all female group was least productive....
-
Why was that? Men in fanance have more apt and east way with numbers than women. The mixed group made the most mistakes because.. distractions. Did we mention the experiment to staff? No, only after the tests were done because they were all the same people participating
