It’s all about the cost of lab work since that is mandatory to prescribe PrEP. Gilead has done a good job with their patient assistance program, but if there’s no coverage for labs and the linkage to care system sucks, no amount of free PrEP will fix it. This is a system issue.

1/ The current medical industry in the U.S is most definetly not a free market. It functions on oligopolies/monopolies depending on what meds ur talking abt. These companies charge whatever they want for meds bc a.) they‘re not in price competition with other med producers and

Just so your aware - PrEP is only available on the NHS in Scotland and Wales. Not England, where it's still being trailed. Most ppl still have to buy overseas or from private pharmacies. Otherwise it would be a lot cheaper than £26/month.
