I haven’t added to the site for a little while, but today’s the day! Here’s an interview from 1917 I found recently, including a new (and stylish) photo of Rupert…

Funny to see this photo I took in an alley in Wellington 11-12 years ago is still in use, after all this time…!

Okay, this MAY have happened to me….in 1996 I was coming here from Toronto on a working holiday for a year, so I managed to find a Sydney Morning Herald before I left, and convinced myself that a nice little place in Kirribilli sounded like an affordable place to stay. Um…no.

Sorry, but Americans moving to Australia thinking they’ll get cheaper rent, because they thought the listed rates were per month and not per week, is slightly humorous.

What are examples in any form of media where a "brilliant song/painting/play/etc" within the story is actually as good as the characters act like it is?
Note: NOT the same as just "I liked it". It needs to actually fully match its fictional reputation

If anyone’s still here (and in Australia) this marvellous film is on SBS On Demand for a month, and well worth a watch for the cast alone, never mind Stephen Fry’s direction of an Evelyn Waugh novel. Appropriate viewing, while this site burns…

I took a video, but then I realised if I posted it here, I’d wipe out a whole lot of other people too. Friends don’t let friends do online Whamageddon.

Everyone on social media should know about the Illusory Truth Effect
If you see something repeated enough times, it seems more true. Multiple studies show that it works on 85% of people. Worse, it still happens even if the information isn't plausible & even if you know better.

As someone whose first computer was an Apple //c, this holds roughly 7,000,000 of those 143kb single-sided floppy disks, if my math is correct. That seems like…a lot?

I’m a two, because my partner walked into The Horseshoe in Toronto for a drink one night and caught the end of a gig by…The Bacon Brothers. So, she wins the universe.
(Also, I was in Lord of the Rings with Elijah Wood, who was in The Toxic Avenger with Kevin Bacon.)
