  1. Hey - what's your most intense professional cringe moment? Mine: I was a visiting speaker at Fancy U. Dinner plans had gotten as far as making a reservation and telling me, but apparently no farther. I ended up sitting by myself at a table for 8 for 2 hours.

  10. I like leaving positive comments in code reviews. Even simple things like "I really like how you did ____" or "good use of the ___ operator." Humans need feedback, especially positive feedback. And it makes you not just look for problems when reviewing code.

    I don't know, I think most of the time people don't even need rationalizations. But it does seem right that we want them often enough to create a market for them.

    Pre-2010, 50g of crack-cocaine got you a mandatory minimum 10 years in prison. Post-2010, that threshold was raised to 280g, which resulted in this .... uhhh suspicious drug seizure graph. h/t
