restricted speech and identity politics is mostly not because of either leaders being personally in support or opportunistic marketing virtue signalling, but rather that (especially among employees) corporations want a predictable, controlled, conflict-free space. Business has

always controlled speech and behavior. We became businesslike and professional just in order to allow work to take place. Certainly business has no allegiance to free speech as such.

Not sure how strong this particular theory is, but I am primed for theories like this because it talks about the give and take between the left and right coalitions during the current political realignment. So many ppl continue to use "left" and "right" to talk
