Hey everyone! Despite what people have been assuming, the Go gopher is not going anywhere. He's still the Go mascot, as he always was. The discussion has been about the logo, not the mascot. The gopher rules eternal. #golang

I’m reviewing all my old CS textbooks to see if any of them recommend choosing a language based on its logo. Oh wait... when I got my degree languages didn’t have logos.

C is the best language. It's so good, that when the IEEE developed the ASCII standard, they included this language's logo as a character (position 0x43).

That's asserting. I was almost going to switch to C++ based on the rumors.

Was there even a previous logo? If there was I didn't know.

The top line in the following link is closest thing I've seen to a logo over the years. https://golang.org/doc/gopher/bumper.png …

Why not just make that the logo? I hope they at least choose something that fits with the awesome pencil-drawn-gopher aesthetic.

I am a bit disappointed tbh. The simple and utilitarian design of the previous branding effort felt very welcoming and non-corporate. What differentiates this from every other hipster javascript frameworks' branding? https://blog.golang.org/go-brand

Great news. Disappointing that the marketing communication about this was so poor. Still, happy we keep the art & the spirit of Go that is in the mascot!

Does the change in the logo's number of "speed lines" suggest a secret conspiracy to add a ⌯ operator to the language?

I like the new Go logo. Looks cool and is representative of the simplicity, cleanness and performance of the language. Kudos!pic.twitter.com/ZHywH1V7WC

Worse than the logo change will be the "website refresh". Why change something that is already good?

Yes, but the design guide says that we shouldn't use the Gopher as a standalone way to represent Go.
