From my experience living in/traveling to multiple countries, yes. Even in countries that have some history w/ credit, leverage is minimal

Can’t speak worldwide. But in Switzerland we have free education. And needing credit to get more credit makes us scratch our heads.

Regarding personal debt, maybe its normalization is just the US. It emerged due to specific post-war national policies during US prosperity.

As near as I can tell: yes. People in France don’t often carry credit cards and sometimes do not believe my stories of personal debt.

I'd say that is true for student loans but not for debts in general. According to OECD data, US households are not more in debt than others.

This being said, I assume that there is a huge gap between low and high income households in the US which is not visible in OECD data.
