Hey tech companies, you want to have a positive influence on society and politics? Let people work remotely from their home towns Let people vote in the communities where it matters most Let them contribute to those local economies Let them support their extended families

More importantly, though, is that the "freedom of white flight" situation where I may be comfortable moving to a red state, while many of my peers who happen to be people of color, can't. If I get the same pay as someone in the Bay Area, but I move to rural Montana, for example.

Yeah - as business owner I think pay should be relative to cost of living. As individual, I think I’d accept that I’d be paid less because of that, but would tolerate/agree to it because I’d worry about social impact. e.g. you’d end up with the “fuck tech people” in every city.

We already have a "fuck big tech" narrative because it's seen as completely out of reach. If more folks support those smaller communities, we can help foster growth in those communities at a local level, rather than "tech" being a far disconnected "big city" thing.

Even within tech: there is so much disparity. If you look at the spread of pay scale between the least paid vs the most paid it's ridiculous.
