Well actually... with distributed teams and community it's a lot of writing to accomplish all those things... chat email issue tickets...forum posts...sky writing..telegrams....whatever comms in use by the community...mostly writing.

I would always tell people looking at the role that it is 90% *not* writing code, but the 10% that is code is the fun and creative kind of coding. It's often not a great fit though for people who just live to code.

I would rather talk with people to help in solving issues, than sit in the corner alone coding. Too few value solving the issues, as those often have more to do with an internal processes and human relations between different people, and miscommunications between different teams.

Developer Relations involves a lot more than writing code.
DevRel is:

- collecting and relaying feedback to other teams
- helping people work through challenges
- inspiring people to build
- building tools to empower
- mentorship
