Also folks, this hugely damaging MMR paper published in 1998 was only retracted in 2010 (seriously!) Retraction note here: https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(10)60175-4 … So yeah, predatory journals are bad, but I think peer-review problems at 'legit' journals have and continue to cause more harm

When I was a kid we all had measles and I don't know anyone from my school who died. And this was half a century ago. I am wondering why kids die in 2018 in USA? It shouldn't happen.

It's usually the very young or infirm who die. Measles is extremely contagious so is hard to protect them from getting it. That's why vaccinating everyone is critical. Are you sure you don't mean German Measles (aka rubella)?

I had all of it, we all did. There were no immunizations at my time. :( We had all of the types of measles and mumps mostly before 7 yrs old. Yes, some had to be rushed to the hospital mostly due to the temperature and possible complications, but others stayed at home.

Massive survivor bias there. Can't ask those who weren't so lucky. Can we?

I don’t know - but why the spike last year/this year? Wakefield’s article is years old.
