After a long wordless time, I've written an essay on death without ritual, seabirds, and marking time in the pandemic. Come for the puffin cameos, stay for the grief.

What a wonderful start to the day with colleagues at the alternative assessment workshop, where I got to share my gardening theory of feminist, critical, joyful pedagogy. Thank you for creating this space! (I’ll share the recording when it’s ready.)

As protests in continue, it is crucial to recognize colonial legacies that undergird critiques of inequality and state violence. and I speak to these problems in today’s article. Decolonization is a collective act.

What starts with Meghan Markle & ends with Edward Said? This is out of a paywall now, my essay on 'decolonising' universities. For benefit of some journalists, it contains baseline definition of decolonisation. Hint: it's not 'remove white men'.

I've often been asked about 'how' I teach poetry. When Monique Rooney, the editor of Australian Humanities Review, asked me to write about how I teach creative writing, I decided to write about how a few poets have written water.

There's a lot I love about working with PhD students, but perhaps my favorite aspect is getting to accompany a piece of work–and the human creating it–over time. What a treat it is to watch voice and inquiry evolve, and to be part of the process of shepherding curiosity along.

I really love this piece on moving away from "firsting" in research (with all the coloniality of that frame), and, instead, framing academic contributions as part of ongoing conversations. h/t

A good way to start the week: By pausing before uttering the word “resilience,” which compellingly argues imposes mythical terms on colonized people worldwide.

The sunset tonight was at 9:47 PM, and I got to wear a twirly dress and eat too much cake in celebration of our dear friends’ wedding. I knew intimately that the pandemic robbed us of witnessing each other’s losses. I didn’t realize how much I missed witnessing love.

I wrote this short piece during the latest Israeli assault on Gaza. It is an attempt to challenge the dehumanising discourse of resilience in how it imposes mythical terms on the colonized people worldwide.

Finally, there are some excellent homes for feminist research (with review experiences at being a real stand-out) and I'm happy to think with PhD students and fellow early-career researchers about where and how to place our work. 12/12
