    Living space goals

    In every spot where you can sit down in this apartment there is a good book. The books are very different - and so you decide where to sit depending on what you want to read. The space becomes mood, just as I wanted.

    Periodic update on my progress through SICP.

    Just finished 2.3. Symbolic data is handy. I particularly like how SICP has you identify things. Simply by making the first item in the list the things name.

    The elites and narrative-makers have stopped believing in the human project and have started seeing the future as something to be mitigated and managed. Fewer babies, slower tech, smaller dreams. Collective imaginative anorexia.

    My wild-eyed, speculative theory of the moment is that negative interest rates correlate strongly with negative birthrates, both due to an underlying spiritual malaise and crisis of collective confidence. There's no future left to invest in.

    I just replaced the trackpad cable in my 2015 MacBook Pro. Taking the cover off of my laptop makes me really nervous, but being able to fix my own stuff is so satisfying!

    Roark reminds me of John Boyd. He's the perfect embodiment of choosing To Do instead of To Be, whereas Peter Keating is the embodiment of To Be. (Boyd's biography is great, by the way: )

    As I’m about to turn 26, and have had very few *interesting* days of paid programming work, this is encouraging.

    I am almost unrecognizable from the person I was at age 20 through 26 at work, partly due to growth/etc but partly because I was deeply disengaged by being in an environment which didn’t really need or use my talents. You’d have diagnosed me with a terminal case of laziness.

    Holy crap, this is incredible: A dog playing Jenga. Turn-taking, fine motor control, apparent understanding of the aim of the game. I would not have guessed a dog could do this.
