black women’s theory will always be appropriated because it is so generative of a felt knowledge. racial capitalism makes it so that it is most productive of capital in white hands. what we must recognize is that there is a deeper immaterial value that black women produce.

This essay is so brilliant & passionate. "mistikôsiwak is a declaration that art alone cannot solve longstanding colonial inequalities. Monkman’s engagement is much deeper—bleeding off the canvas and onto the streets, into the reservations of our minds and hearts."

Rest in peace Santu Mofokeng (1956-2020). Remembering one of the photographic series I love, his Train Churches (1986). Images that invoke the sensibility of the everyday: unobtrusive moments, ordinary gestures; and shadowy light effects.

I've been following this unable to tweet or talk about it because I just can't. Grateful for folks like and and more who have been tweeting about it, holding the state accountable. The violence of this is breathtaking.

The boat and 'the four-fold abyss' are nothing to fetishize. I wrote about it as an entry into the terrors of language. By way of Hortense Spillers, the experience of the abyss “originates in the historical moment when language ceases to speak.”

Exactly. This is why Glissant writes of a "debasement more eternal than apocalypse.” (Glissant, Poetics of Relation, 6)

    > $50,000 in student loans does not betray anything about the financial position of the one with that amount of debt other than the fact that they have that amount of debt; the amount doesn't translate to financial stability or employment or ability to repay.
