I don't think you're aware of how far medicine has progressed since. These statistics say 40% of kids died before the age of 5 back then. https://ourworldindata.org/child-mortality On the other hand, the information I found about him states that he had 6 children in total and just one died.

Yeah child mortality in general was pretty grim, but how many of those deaths were the result of melted shoes?
