You do know that ‘meritocracy’ was coined to describe a dystopia?
Apparently living in a meritocracy is unfair and people are signing petitions against it as an industry standard. I remember reading about this dystopian world in Atlas Shrugged and thinking ‘Thank god this is fiction’. Maybe not. http://post-meritocracy.org/meritocracy/

When I first started in the computer industry in 1978 there were no rules except merit. Degrees didn't matter, age, or anything else, they just needed people who could do the work. Without merit the system falls apart, period.
