All of us on the Bocas team are sad to hear the news that Kamau Brathwaite passed away earlier today in Barbados, at the age of 89. Poet, scholar, and editor, Brathwaite was a towering figure in Caribbean literature and intellectual life for half a century.

Issue 10 is out now! We invited submissions from across the globe to promote unity during the current political & social environment that is promoting the complete opposite. This quote by Martin Luther King Jr sums up perfectly our idea behind this issue.

Already in 2020, 'gender critical' feminists and their allies have been silenced in the Times Higher Education, the Times, the Sunday Times, the Telegraph, the Guardian, the Spectator, Spiked, and on Good Morning Britain. But yes, absolutely - their voices are not being heard.

In Bristol, UK, we had a bus boycott in 1963, campaigning against the Bristol Omnibus Company for refusing to hire Black drivers and conductors. The successful campaign had a direct impact on the forming of Race Relations Act, which came into UK law two years later.
