This is a terrible idea, actually. https://twitter.com/goldietaylor/status/1112751027781025793 …

Sebi exploited very real and valid suspicions that Black people, in particular, have of the medical establishment. We know what medical professionals—supported by the gov't—have done to us. As a result, there is serious work for the medical community to do to gain our trust.

That said, it is not helpful to overstate what holistic methods do. Water, fruits, and veggies are great. But they cannot cure HIV. HIV is a virus that attaches to a specific blood cell (CD4 T-cell) in order to make copies of itself.

The process of HIV copying itself eventually kills the cells and compromises one's immune system. You can drink as much water as you want but that will not stop HIV from replicating.

There have been only 2 people on record that have been cured of HIV. Both received very expensive and very risky bone marrow transplants from donors who are resistant to the virus—i.e. HIV cannot attach to their T-cells due to a genetic mutation.

It sounds very complicated because it is. Sometimes there really are no simple solutions to illnesses. And it sucks. So many people have died and many of us want to believe that there's an easy way out but sometimes there just isn't.

We have medication that interrupts the HIV life cycle (the process of replication) so that people with the virus can live healthy lives. Yes, it's expensive when you don't have health insurance but that's because of capitalism, not because the cure is being hidden.

Now, cancer is even more complicated than HIV because different cancers are caused by different factors. Just knowing that should tell you that it doesn't make sense that one solution would cure all cancers.

Furthermore, it's insulting to anyone who is living with cancer or HIV to say that you have the "cure." Because the assumption, then, is that if you don't get cured, it's your own fault for not consuming enough natural/organic, foods. That's ludicrous.

Not to mention the activists and scientists who have dedicated their lives to finding real solutions. We know that HIV maps onto social inequalities: racism, homophobia, poverty, & access to healthcare. Let's address those things before we jump to magic bullets and faux doctors.

I’m well aware. I study public health. I spend quite a bit of time critiquing western medicine. None of that invalidates anything I’ve said. https://twitter.com/EsotericQuality/status/1112873069259849729?s=20 …
