U forgot the part where Republican Party was formed by abolitionists & NATIVISTS with TIMES as flagship newspaper saying in 1875 NYC is not an American city: too many immigrants.

Brilliant paragraph in there about Rs reaching for Kiwanis, bowling league, cardigan wearing Lawrence Well-k fans. Reagan explicitly appealed to that type of voter too, using a style and panache that eluded Spiro A. And he could dog whistle with the best of them.

You should mentioned how Nancy Pelosi’s brother was then the mayor and her father the mayor in the 40’s thru the 50’s and had helped turn Baltimore into the ghetto hole it still is today. If it weren’t for Agnew intervening the city would have burned to the ground.

I know this isn’t remotely the real point of this piece, but I keep coming back to your description of TN as a “swing state.” Whoa.

When did the Party of Lincoln start losing support of African Americans. The day when Republicans refused to join the fight and vote to override the filibuster of Senator Wagner's anti-lynching bill.
