Has this not been your experience with other forms of writing?
The "writing" in UX writing is only 3% of the job. The other 97% is: researching, collaborating, analyzing, designing, stress testing, mapping, observing, whiteboarding, mentoring, advocating, questioning, agreeing/compromising, QAing, failing, trying again, and celebrating wins.

Yes! My experience of working with writers is that writing for UX is a very specific discipline, distinct from writing "marketing copy for the web" In the same way being a UI designer is very different to being a graphic designer - similar interdisciplinary skills are needed.
