Multiple people have reached out to me privately to say they got in. Every project has been a Hololens app that is being paid to port to Magic Leap. It also seems 100% productivity / work focused apps. I’m curious to see what else surfaces.https://twitter.com/JBergounhoux/status/1097743854571343874 …

French startup Opuscope was selected for the program. https://www.usine-digitale.fr/article/la-start-up-francaise-opuscope-a-ete-selectionnee-par-magic-leap-pour-son-programme-de-financement.N807430 …

Should have been Magic Leap “Third-Party” Porting Grant instead of Indie Creator - latter has a totally different expectation. Being someone who has been building AR apps for the past decade, instead of pitching new concepts, would have just stuck with HoloLens apps I built.

      1) That is not accurate. I can confirm that many grant winners are original mixed reality concepts, across enterprise, gaming, communication & co-presence, education, location based, etc.

So why not publicly announce them? It seems like they can only inspire. Better yet, also posting the winning proposals would be a helpful resource as well. I’m definitely better at just building the app than grant-writing, so would learn a lot!

Because before you announce, we would want devs to have agreed to grant terms and signed (and not just purely informed that they were selected) and we would want their consent and participation before publicly announcing. We will share more info soon, thank you for caring!

Things certainly work differently at Magic Leap! Having won (and lost my share) of these things, usually the winners/projects are announced on the date (and at the same time as the rejections). I hope the upcoming info will be dense / sufficient to help future applicants!

We hope to have more future indie funds and competitions - this was a first step 😎

I feel that releasing feedback would be helpful - comments or even if just numbers scored in each judging category. I only spent a weekend - but it's time I could have spent building something awesome instead of applying to be rejected without understanding what went wrong.

I wouldn't focus on getting feedback. You don't "lose" time spent on writing up a grant (I've written several). You now have a bunch of content you can easily re-use for your next grant or application.

Hey don’t knock Porgs! A little independent developer called ILMxLAB from a galaxy far, far away spent a long time conceiving, coding, caring and creating that fun title that was released today. It’s a big tent for developers large and small.
