Artists: Never stay in your own lane. Change styles if you like; switch medium. There is no need at all for consistency. Do whatever you want to do and you do it well.
Some people spend upwards of 12 hours a day in front of a screen, accessing/manipulating digital media and still think digital proof of ownership is a dumb concept. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
These paintings aren’t actually portraits.
They were painted by South African artist Marlene Dumas, who lived Amsterdam in the 1970s and painted women from the red light district.
But Marlene soon began to question the ethics of her own paintings. (1/4 🧵)
Is there a trash spectrum? At what point does something transmute into trash? Can a deliberate act transmute it into something else? Something higher?
I don’t know. the more I consider these points, the less I understand.

I’m never convinced when an artist says they know what their finished work means. Or if they truly do, how utterly boring.
Do you also know every corner of your mind? If so, I assume you’ve never felt frustrated, confused, tongue tied, etc.
Posting sometimes can be like skipping a rock. . Seeing how far it will go. You think the way you hold the rock, position it’s release , the way you put it on the water is all you can do. . The rest is up to chance. Even if you invite nature.

This one piece is very peculiar. Especially in the way it carries beauty. Its very subsided. The halftone pattern of the original scanned page is almost diluted. Giving way to a watercolor diffused surface. 🖤
