Your tweet is misleading. The man wasn't telling an offensive joke. The press reports clearly indicate that he was convicted of posting an offensive video on youtube.
A man has been convicted in a UK court of making a joke that was deemed "grossly offensive". If you don't believe in a person's right to say things that you might find "grossly offensive", then you don't believe in Freedom of Speech.

@rickygervais you're my comedy hero, but he was supported in court by EDL ffs! And they ruled he wanted to drive traffic to his website. Jokes are jokes. This was more than that.
