Correct. If another candidate files, SHE could be endorsed by the Democratic State Committee at their convention on May 23rd instead of Schneiderman. Then she wouldn't have to petition.
At first glance it looks like the filing deadline to file petitions and run in Democratic primary for state Attorney General is July 12 (second page) https://www.elections.ny.gov/NYSBOE/law/2018PoliticalCalendar.pdf … (Someone please correct me if I'm misreading)
