Among everything else that’s odd about this statement is @RudyGiuliani asserting that the FBI Director is an “inferior executive branch officer.” That’s almost certainly wrong (under #SCOTUS precedent, he’s almost certainly a principal executive branch officer). Giuliani's statement today says the FBI director is an "inferior" (not "principal") officer. As best I can figure, that is: (a) probably wrong (see Morrison v. Olson) and (b) gratuitous since "inferior" status wouldn't give the president any greater power to fire.

maybe Rudy meant "inferior" just as an insult

I suspect Rudy had no idea of the distinction between "principal" and "inferior" officers and just meant that the FBI Director is inferior to the President. This is the problem when these statements go out w/o review by people who know anything.
