I don't think it is about selling her workout trainer's books. I do wonder whether celebrity goes to the Justices heads in jobs where there already many pushes for Justices to inflate their self-importance. (No worse than when every brief is written as love letter to J. Kennedy.)

Perhaps because she is a real human being with a sense of humor? The most disconcerting thing to me after almost 25 years of interacting with federal judges is how disconnected so many of them are with the real-life consequences of their decisions on actual human beings.

They live in an abstract world where only Platonic ideals matter, and it is deeply disturbing to see that play out in real life. Anything that counters that mentality can only be good. Sotomayor understands this better than any justice who has ever served, but Ginsburg does too.
