If one does not need to buy a gun every 4 years to keep the right to buy a gun, why should one have to vote every 4 years to keep the right to vote? I thought we had the freedom to abstain without problematic consequences.....

The Ohio SG who argued the case is a former Kennedy clerk. I have no reason to believe that matters — either to the questions asked or the vote — but I would be curious if there is any empirical evidence along those lines.
