Rick, great piece and your work is invaluable to the voting rights fight. But your analysis missed the importance of grassroots pushback: thousands of public comments to the commission, support/emboldening the states, etc. This was a people-powered victory as well as a legal one.

You seem to be far more blasé about “further review by the Office of Homeland Security” than I and several others are. Care to expound on why Trump chose that specific department, and why it’s no big deal? What’s the agenda there — for certainly there must be one.
