The problem with @hughhewitt's logic in thread it that is assumes incorrectly Republicans "entitled" to this Senate seat. I'm discussing voters' rights and expectations when election already called and underway, with military voters already having voted.https://twitter.com/hughhewitt/status/929461806149619713 …

The case of Democrats replacing a withdrawn candidate after ballot is not only distinguishable (as I explain in blog post); it facilitates voter choice. If Hugh wants voter choice and Moore won't withdraw, he can support a write-in campaign for Luther Strange.

Otherwise you set awful precedent that when the party in power thinks it is going to lose, it can simply cancel the elections. That's not a road that anyone committed to democracy and the rule of law should want to go down. That's something I thought Hugh and I would agree on

I remember when Hewitt thought Massachusetts should cancel the special election that replaced the late Ted Kennedy (D) with Scott Brown (R). Just kidding.

And your point about tinkering with an election that has already begun is completely valid. As for "unrepresentative D in deepest red state," well hey. We got Scott Brown elected in Massachusetts to fill Ted Kennedy's seat.

If a D is elected then he is by definition representative, no?

HH's sense of entitlement to the AL seat is obvious and outrageous. Like in sport—teams hold the contest even when a big fave is playing a cellar dweller. But then Rs have refused fair play for years now. See #MerrickGarland and Gorsuch. Thx friends for trying to bat back his BS.

It's good he recognizes that Moore shouldn't be elected. The correct thing to do is convey that to voters. Support the opponent. Grow up, you don't get to cancel elections.

You could hold that election 100 times and the democrat will lose 98 of them.
