Democrats MIGHT win a bare majority in the VA House of Delegates on a night where the top of the ticket won by 9 pts. They might still lose! And this proves that gerrymandering doesn't matter.

Apparently people can't tell that I'm actually mocking Barro. Gerrymandering is the main reason why it's up in the air whether Dems win the HoD

Remember, always find a way to explain that Democrats are wrong.

Look, Dem margins would have been much larger if they’d just been nicer about the statues and stuff. Really gotta rethink their stance.

Also, we'd fairly have more seats tonight but for gerrymandering.

Serious. If a team wins a football game but know a ref was crooked, doesn't mean you don't try to get fairer ref

Oh god no, gerrymandering is a real, and offensive, distraction

Plus imagine the dog stomp if these states weren’t gerrymandered.

Disagree. Gerrymandering leads to discontinuous election results. In normal times Rs win 55-45 but when wave is +10 Rs are completely wiped out. When you account for incumbency advantage, Rs will face greater wipeout than voteshare would predict.

Agree w
@rickhasan We should worry more about gerrymandering so we never find ourselves: 1. This close to the brink again 2. So disproportionately represented 3. So polarized It’s less a partisan issue than a basic democracy and voting rights issueThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Right. Winning state-wide or 50-50 is not a test of gerrymandering.

@jbarro I'd disgree also. But, I wonder if it will still be used to help make the case for the defense in Gill v. Whitford? - 1 more reply

I'm shocked that Josh "Elites are actually good" Barro thinks voter suppression of poor people and minorities is not a big deal

I won’t say that Dems shouldn’t worry about gerrymandering, but rigged districts are often highly correlated. That makes them susceptible to waves crashing over many shores in one election.
