Strongly disagree. It takes a wave (and often lawsuits to mitigate the worst culprits)https://twitter.com/jbarro/status/928078406541029378 …

Tonight seems like a good example of why Dems spend too much time worrying about gerrymandering.

Democrats MIGHT win a bare majority in the VA House of Delegates on a night where the top of the ticket won by 9 pts. They might still lose! And this proves that gerrymandering doesn't matter.

Apparently people can't tell that I'm actually mocking Barro. Gerrymandering is the main reason why it's up in the air whether Dems win the HoD

Look, Dem margins would have been much larger if they’d just been nicer about the statues and stuff. Really gotta rethink their stance.

Disagree. Gerrymandering leads to discontinuous election results. In normal times Rs win 55-45 but when wave is +10 Rs are completely wiped out. When you account for incumbency advantage, Rs will face greater wipeout than voteshare would predict.

Agree w @rickhasan We should worry more about gerrymandering so we never find ourselves: 1. This close to the brink again 2. So disproportionately represented 3. So polarized It’s less a partisan issue than a basic democracy and voting rights issue

I won’t say that Dems shouldn’t worry about gerrymandering, but rigged districts are often highly correlated. That makes them susceptible to waves crashing over many shores in one election.
