Bad, unsurprising news. It won't be enough, but to start this country should vote only w systems that produce a recountable *paper* ballothttps://twitter.com/bobmcmillan/status/891020884688764928 …

I know elections are province of the states; Is there *anything* federal govt can do to req. a standard that wouldn't violate constitution?

Theoretically, the EAC could change certification standards so that only machines with a paper trail would be certified.

I guess my question is: what stops an R SoS from suing citing federalism? What standard would win Kennedy's vote?

EAC certification is voluntary so it wouldn't really stop anything but could influence some states.

Absolutely right about paper ballot. In UK it's possible to have a meticulous audit trail about who has voted, while keeping vote secret.

Like in Venezuela. The machines aren't online. Print each vote. At the end print the totals that can be audited, then transmits the results

It is the biggest thing no one will talk about - high likelihood at least 5% of all voting systems have been hacked. I'd bet closer to 15%

And there should automatically be at least a random sample of the paper ballots, even if the machines say it wasn't close.
