I'd say, contra some others, that if Trump fires Mueller now, Rs would more seriously consider impeachment, giving them the preferred Pence.

Trump firing Mueller means he has to fire Rosenstein first or issue order repealing DOJ reg giving AG sole power to fire special counsel

And for Trump to either fire Rosenstein (a la Sat. nite massacre) or change regs, looks like MORE obstruction, raising chance of impeachment

Impeachment unlikely. It would have to be very bad for House Rs. But if proceedings began, Trump more likely to resign

He can declare victory and go home. He'd have ample financial opportunities, assuming no legal cloud or a pardon.
