This opinion is a big deal. Justice Kagan has done something fairly significant for voting rights plaintiffs. See my post in progress

How J Kagan got Justice Thomas to sign onto this opinion is a mystery: it seems to greatly expand ability to attack Republican gerrymanders
-
I've now completed my analysis of today's NC racial gerrymandering decision by
#SCOTUS. Seems like a really big deal http://electionlawblog.org/?p=92675 -
What a winning streak by
@marceelias, who went head to head w Paul Clement in NC and VA voting case on same day at#SCOTUS and won both! - 1 more reply

I think it means the outcome of the case, that the gerrymandering was racist, is upheld and affirmed, creating precedent for future cases.
-
It's in line with recent rulings. No real precedent *created* but good to see the SC keep knocking down these state maps
-
Valid point. Is this the first SCOTUS ruling on a post-Voting Rights case?
-
No they ruled in March on a Virginia case, Bethune-Hill v VA. And in 2015 in Alabama Black Leg. Caucus v Alabama. Similar to this NC case
-
The more you know. Thanks for the information.
-
definitely. I just wrote a paper on the Virginia case so I'm read up on it, but the gerrymandering issue is a pretty complicated problem
-
States just dont seem to know how to properly comply with the VRA

If Clarence "I hate myself" Thomas agrees you racial discriminated, you've done some KKK-level shit.

GOP rigged the election, SCOTUS isn't going to help cover that up.
-
Ok thanks...and that's great!!!
