Basically immediately. McConnel objects when they fillibuster, President Pro Tempore overules and the McConnel starts the vote.
-
No it's more involved than that. Parliamentarian needs to rule, then president of senate, either Pence or a senator filling role, overrules
-
There's a couple steps in the parliamentary procedure, yes. But my understanding is that its a matter of half an hour or so. Not days.
-
What takes time is for the cloture motion to ripen. That won't happen until Thursday, if they filed today. After the, it moves quickly.
-
Ok yes I remember it can happen within hour or so. But: could Dems continue debate after cloture fails? Or can McConnell simply shut it down
-
Well, assuming ALL the rules don't get nuked, there can be up to 30 hours of post-cloture debate, which would take us into Friday afternoon.
-
The Reid rule kept the 30 hours of post cloture debate in place iirc.
