MS has a special election runoff for the U.S. Senate on **November 27,** & I believe the winner wld take office during the lame-duck session (=not January). It's certainly an uphill climb for Dems to win this, but still, a factor to keep in mind that I haven't seen discussed.

If Espy were to somehow capture the seat for Dems, I imagine McConnell would do his best to delay his swearing-in if he were hoping for a SCOTUS vote. As he did for Doug Jones (it took about 3 weeks). In 2010, Joe Manchin took office on Nov. 10, 8 days after the Nov. 2 election.

@rickhasen,@JoshuaADouglas,@DKElections, and anyone else with knowledge of this: is there a reason MS's special runoff winner wouldn't take office pre-January?2 replies 5 retweets 22 likesShow this thread
