One possible twist on the lame duck: The Mississippi Senate election is a special election for the remainder of Cochran's term. If Mike Espy wins either outright on Nov. 6, or in runoff Nov. 27, he'll be seated immediately and lame duck Senate will be 50-50.

Ah, yes. This is another classic norm violating thing--it's hard to imagine a more anti-democratic move than a party, via an already undemocratic legislative body, pushing thru a critical lifetime appointment after an election has just overturned its control of the body.
-
So you're saying they'd 100% do it.
-
I think Mcconnell would certainly want to do it. It might be hard to keep 51, but it would depend on the nominee.
-
Incidentally, this is why if Kavanaugh gets pulled, it won't be Barrett. McConnell is much more worried about putting vulnerable Senators in a tough spot - or worse still, blowing it in a lame duck - than pissing off a few pundits and activists who want to stick it to the libs.
-
Also I just think Trump is fundamentally incapable of nominating a woman.

Nah it’ll still be Barretthttps://twitter.com/mikesacksesq/status/1044084874070687745?s=21 …
