My main disagreements with
@johnastoehr: 1. Not clear that all these judges would have been confirmed if Ds used maximum delaying techniques. If Ds could hold fast, there could have been a compromise to cut number confirmed 2. Save power for Kavanaugh? D's have no cards to play!Show this thread -
3. There is value in showing some backbone even if it means ultimately losing, for future battles over judges and other things 4. Not clear to me that getting a couple of good SDNY judges and getting D Senators back to states a few days sooner is worth what's lost by rolling over

Also worth NB: 4 of those 5 Dem senators who sent back those blue slips are now
#running for re-election. So getting these judges confirmed, people they approved, is a feather in their caps, while also letting them have more days back home... running. -
CORRECTION: Sen Doug Jones did not return a blue slip for district ct nominee Terry Moorer… but tbc, he cldn't have made a timely return b/c confirmation hearing was in Nov 2017 (ie, so the blue slip window closed) while Jones wasn't sworn in 'til Jan 2018. h/t @steadysentinel

I’m surprised that you and Stoehr have not acknowledged the suitability of these candidates and that this perhaps was the reason why they were confirmed. One of them (Baxter) had been previously nominated by Obama.
