Digging into my election trivia bag, in 1982 state house districts in 3 eastern NC counties were invalidated, the
#ncga declined to redraw, we had partisan primaries in those 4 (of 120) districts the same day as November general election, and the election itself was around Jan 91 reply 7 retweets 3 likes -

Can a state legally hold a federal general election on a day other than the first Tuesday after the first Monday in Nov.?

it can have a runoff after election day. It just can't be resolved before election day. See Foster v. Love (Supreme Court)
