Here's a poll for current law students. Some professors dress more formally for class (with suits, ties, etc.) and some dress more informally (jeans, etc.) Do you care? And if you care, which do you prefer?

Law profs have the best job in the world. We get to talk to smart, hardworking young people about stuff we find fascinating. And we can write what we want. Put on a freaking suit. If you find them uncomfortable, you don’t know how to buy a suit.

I always teach in a suit. But I think I may be the only one at my law school to do so, so I was wondering what students thought.

When I started teaching at @ChicagoKentLaw a senior colleague suggested if I wanted to get tenure I should wear a tie. When I moved to @LoyolaLawSchool, a colleague said if I wanted tenure I should lose the tie.

This strikes me as a very California thing. That said, at Pepperdine, I think pretty much everyone always dresses business formal to teach, its own culture.

I took the "wear a suit to teach, but grow out your hair pre-tenure" approach, and that somewhat unusual combination worked fine for me at L&C. #Portlandia
