OK, just to be sure I've got this right: #Reporting is the issue. But otherwise, Trump could have written a check to her for any amount (ie, there's no dollar limit on his use of his personal funds to benefit his campaign), subject only to timely reporting?

Why would it be ok to call it a litigation settlement if there was no pending litigation? Daniels and McDougal weren’t threatening to sue, were they? Or have I blocked out some of this already?

…to treat payment as reportable campaign expenditure? Therefore, the only way for this to be workable is that this is a criminal violation only if helping the campaign was the SOLE motivation; if he would have paid anyway, it's merely a personal expense for all purposes.
