Just in time for Stacey Abrams’ race- a coincidence I’m sure.

Yup you are correct. And note Kemp's "expertise" at voter suppression.

Remember when 98 Senators said it was still needed along with most of the House and the GOP President, and 5 Justices thought they knew better....
-
We have to work ceaselessly to force the media to accurately report that the SCOTUS has become little more than white supremacy organization that is extremely unrepresentative of how the majority of Americans interpret the Constitution and define “justice.”
-
So no, not “white supremacist.” But as
@adamwinkler points out in his great new book, the Court has consistently protected powerful business interests much more than those of the poor. -
The destruction of the key provisions of the VRA combines with VoterID &extreme partisan gerrymandering, have only had one purpose: a return to Jim Crowe era suppression of the black vote. So why yes, the court might be “pro-business” it is very much pro-white as well.
-
No one is more critical of the Court than I am. Jim Crow not part of this.....
-
What do you mean “Jim Crow” not part of this? VRA was created to nd to Jim Crow, SCOTUS ends it, and now the exact same tactics that VRA prevented came roaring back. A rose by any other name is still a rose, just bc no one is calling it Jim Crow doesnt mean it’s not the same /1

Restoring and strengthening the Voting Rights Act should be the first law passed by a new Democratic Administration when ( if? ) the Democrats return to power. Not health care, not anything else. It’s that important. If you can’t vote, you can’t do anything in a democracy.

If there is ever another VRA passed, there needs to be a check on the DOJ preclearance process as well. Otherwise, if section 5 was still in effect, we'd currently have Jeff Sessions rubberstamping every suppression maneuver, like the GA poll closures.
-
If Section 5 was still in place, Donald Trump would not be President and Jeff Sessions would not be AG. The 77,000 votes that put Trump over the top in the Electoral College can be directly tied to the effects of recently enacted voter suppression actions in those 3 states.

The Roberts Court is just another extension of the Republican Party. They will happily rip apart our democracy to ensure GOP supremacy.

Do you know where the proposal is coming from? Is it a state elections board proposal? This has been kind of murky in the coverage of this I've read.
