Moreover, Steele did NOT know who he was working for. For all he knew the Trump campaign could have hired him to find out if anything negative was to found in Trump’s activities in Russia that could hurt his campaign so they could head it off.

the FBI already knew. Other parts of it required confirmation. The focus on the dossier seems, to me, to be a blatant GOP diversion tactic to shift the public’s attention away from the criminality of conspiracy by casting doubt on the legitimacy of the FBI’s investigation.

Isn't the main issue at hand, at this point, whether or not any opposition research was improperly reported, or not reported at all, to the FEC? ie, ultimate recipient(s) of expenditures were not disclosed on FEC reports?
