Was also long ago reported about Kennedy-Ivanka connection.https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2017/02/22/ivanka-daughter-visit-supreme-court-as-guest-of-justice-kennedy/amp/ …

I’m as critical of Kennedy’s votes as many (and have another very critical piece out Monday
@slate) but there’s nothing to suggest Justice Kennedy did his job with anything but the utmost integrity.Show this thread -
I make the same point about Justice Scalia in my book. One can think his jurisprudence unsound and even dangerous without impugning his integrity.https://www.amazon.com/Justice-Contradictions-Antonin-Politics-Disruption/dp/0300228643/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516904231&sr=8-1&keywords=richard+l.+hasen …

So why did Kennedy retire when he did? He’s nearly 82, wanted to go last year but stayed another year likely because of Trump instability, and as I wrote
@slate the day before Kennedy announced, he appeared out of gashttps://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/06/did-justice-anthony-kennedy-just-signal-his-retirement.html …Show this thread -
This is not news people: "Last year, the Financial Times reported that Kennedy’s son was “one of Mr Trump’s most trusted associates over a 12-year spell at Deutsche.” https://newrepublic.com/minutes/149496/trumps-relationship-justice-kennedy-sounds-shady-new-report …https://www.ft.com/content/8c6d9dca-882c-11e7-bf50-e1c239b45787 …

But why go with the easy explanation when you can put another pin with a red string into the corkboard?
-
I was genuinely surprised to hear of Justice Kennedy’s connection to Trump via his son, and I follow the court fairly closely. Was this common knowledge?
-
Thanks!

There have been articles, it was not widely reported and never in the realm of common knowledge. If Chelsea had taken money from a Supreme Court Justice’s son, I suspect we would have been talking about it non stop. Because it’s ludicrous.

Tanden offered two factual observations. If you can dispute either, feel free. There’s a reason why SCOTUS Justices avoid even the potential appearance of impropriety. When your son personally benefitted from a person whose matters appear in your courtroom, you have a problem.

Objection. The tweet intimated nothing. It states facts. You made the inference. You, not her. Perhaps because the inference is obvious and compelling. Own it.
-
That is exactly right.
@neeratanden 's tweet was a statement of fact. I don't understand attacking her for that - everything she stated was 100% correct

Kennedy’s most immediate family member had a close business and personal relationship with Trump over many years. Kennedy needed to both disclose that and recuse himself from Trump administration related cases. If Ginsburg’s son had dealings with Obama >> calls for impeachment.

NO, it states there was a clear conflict of interest. No one has actually said Justice Kennedy acted improperly . . . there is a very real possibility, if this is true, that he should have recused himself from votes directly involving Trump/WH decisions.

Not true. Why did he pick his clerks and then suddenly retire??? Dig deeper, or you will be considered a fool.

It’s not a charge. She’s just making an observation. Something stinks here and you know it
