How is NC going to be as bad as today's TX decision? In Rucho v Common Cause, the NC GOP basically admitted their partisan intent up front. Doesn't that satisfy any conceivable intents test?

Partisan intent would not be a basis for putting North Carolina back under Voting rights Act preclearance. It would have to be racial intent.
-
and when I was referencing North Carolina in that tweet and the
@Slate piece I was referring to laws like voter id laws, manipulating rules for election boards, etc. Not the partisan gerrymandering case -
aha. That makes far more sense than the wrong idea I had in my head

Are you suggesting African Americans disproportionately don't carry identification needed to vote? How is NC legislature is racist for putting voter ID laws on the ballot? You really are desperately trying to inflame people with your rhetoric. Pathetic!
-
As a native North Carolinian who saw the dismantling of our state from the beginning, I can tell you that it is absolutely a racist tactic to ask for voter ID of any kind. It is designed to make sure poor and underserved populations have less access. 1/2
-
We didn't need laws like this for what, 40 years, but all of a sudden they're vital to democracy? Nah. They're vital to keeping black/brown and poor people away from the polls. It's why they're taking away early voting too.
-
Used to be able to open a bank account without having your identity verified. That must be racist too. Nothing wrong with voter ID. You need ID for everything. Being against voter ID implies you want the system open to fraud.
-
So, let me get this straight. The bare possibility of a single fraudulent vote is such a huge threat to the integrity of elections that a law known to disenfranchise thousands is necessary?
-
Oh, bare threat of a single fraudulent vote is all we're talking about? Guess you missed Al Franken's senate race and fraud discovered? Why is it CA won't let feds audit their votes for fraud? You can't get into a club w/o ID!!
-
Getting into a club is not a fundamental constitutional right. Voting is. Both of those claims are crap. And North Carolina isn't Wisconsin or California.
-
Same premise. If you say there is no evidence of voter fraud (Minnesota disagrees), why not open up the books to investigate? Afraid of transparency? There's a LOT of foreign nationals residing in US with an interest in our elections. Need to ensure integrity.

There's only three steps left: 1. Vote. In 2018, in 2020. Tell your friends, tell the people on the street. Vote, vote, votevotevotevote. 2. When D's get control, pack the court. I'd rather not have to, but given BushvGore, Shelby County, and this, we gotta. 3. Impose

The GOP stole a Supreme Court seat to appoint a racist sympathizer to do their bidding as payback. Guess they found their man in Gorsuch. Now the unrepresentative antidemocratic GOP occupying force in Raleigh will feel even more emboldened to advance their racist hateful agenda

If you haven't already seen this article, I HIGHLY recommend it. I've been using the phrase 'hostile takeover' in reference to Trump & R's since summer of 2016.https://www.ineteconomics.org/perspectives/blog/meet-the-economist-behind-the-one-percents-stealth-takeover-of-america …
