My new one @Slate on today's decision in Abbott v. "Justice Alito avoided this standard by saying, unconvincingly, that the lower court had mistakenly put the burden of proof on Texas to show such discrimination." Maybe I misunderstand, but that doesn't sound right. Wasn't the burden to show *lack* of discrimination?

Only in the Republican states. Only the Republican Party is openly racist and openly hostile to minority voting. The normal states will continue to want everyone to vote.

Most states are Republican though and that is unlikely to change thanks to voter suppression, voter apathy and gerrymandering. It's a tragedy to watch a progressive country running backwards at a pace of knots.

Most Republican states are dominated by acreage, not people. The states government by normal people are consistently enacting good policy, and will continue to do so. But they do so with the albatross of Republicanism around their necks. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Mmmmm, Ohio has 11 million voters, Democrats congregate around urban centers 3C’s plus Toledo, Dayton and Youngstown, historically union towns. However, a cursory glance at Ohio politics will show 30+ years of GOP rule in the Ohio Gen Assembly, an occasional D Gov is gridlocked.

I’ve lived on East Coast; in OH, very little progress here IRL. For ex., 2011, Gov Strickland (D) funded & signed into law a “3C Rail” connex CLE, COL, CIN w/ light rail. Finally: economic boost! tourism! eco-friendly travel!! Yet 2012, Kasich killed it as 1st order of biz.

DYK Ohio struggled economically for next six years? Thx, Kasich. He - yes, the media darling— and his tribe crushed working families, kids, and women’s rights. Gave it up for Big Auto, Big Oil. He just woke up 18 months ago to opioid crises, ODs in 16-24 year olds...

I could go on. But if you meant red states have more rural voters, that fits here in the soybean, corn and pork state —folks usually fall into the gop demographic. But Ohio is split across the state: North of I-75 leans Blue, South of 75 leans Red.

You are exactly right, Joe. I meant Interstate 70, the East-West corridor running straight through Ohio. (*I got fired up there, for a minute, thanks for catching that.;-)

This just adds to the proof that Senate interrogations of potential SCOTUS judges are a total waste of time. Judges like Gorsuch are adamant that they will not let politics influence their decisions, that they will only follow the law. Then they make blatantly political decisions

I agree in part. However they do get a vote. Killing the filibuster makes that far less powerful though. In this case it was pretty clear from Gorsuch’s record & writings that he would almost certainly be both hyper partisan & ideological. By design. Terrible for democracy.

All because of a corrupt Gorsuch installed by a corrupt, treasonous GOP and so-called president. 4 white men and 1 "house Negro" who doesn't care about brown and black people.
