Whether you like Justice Thomas's jurisprudence or not, no one should have this much power for so long. 18 year fixed term limits for #SCOTUS is a rare idea that unites many of us on left and right.https://twitter.com/KannonShanmugam/status/1010524608825417729 …

A very happy birthday to Justice Thomas. Only 43 when he joined the Court, he turns 70 today.

You should have stopped at “no one should have this much power.” The SCOTUS has turned itself into an irreversible super legislature.

If we’re re-thinking the Supreme Court, I’d sooner eliminate it and replace it with a rotating group of COA judges.

Right. A way to ease the high-stakes conflict of presidential elections, too.

Why an 18 year fixed term limit? House and Senate have dozens with 35+ years of service.

And they’re re-elected by the people every 2 or 6 years. Not a perfect system to be sure but not a lifetime appointment either

Should be 16 years with sitting president appointing 2 each term in 1st and 3rd years

18 years can be staggered so that each president has the opportunity to nominate 2 justices. In a court with 9 justices, a 16-year term limit can at best be staggered so that every 16 years one president will have the power to appoint 3 justices in his favor.

This would fix what exactly? Policies like this should occur only if fixing some existing ill. Our problem is not (at present) with the SCOUTS - it is within ourselves. We have elected the leaders we have; we have failed to enact new amend-look 2 the people - not the SCOTUS.

LOL. There is history of Dems promoting SCOTUS term limits when they are in the minority. See FDR, 1937.

Totally Agree - 10 year term limits and no lobbying jobs for another 10! Also add more/more diverse Judges (12 instead of 9) like FDR tried to do long ago

I actually have no issue with zero term limits for a NON PARTISAN S.C.. I find this picture disturbing on many levels. Are there pics of Obama, or even Bush paling around with ‘preferred’ justices?

And if Republicans use the same blocking strategy without consequence like last time? Isn’t there precedent for 10 justices? Maybe try something less drastic like that 1st.
