People complaining to me about my use of the word "inadvertent" here. But as you'll see in my Slate piece this matters a lot.

Democracy died with Merrick Garland then?
-
It's been a longer process than that. Citizens United was a nail in its coffin, McConnell being applauded for announcing the GOP would block all Obama actions, the gerrymandering, voter suppression...the list of bells tolling has been long, I only heard tinkles in the background.
-
Citizens United was the equivalent of democracy getting shot in the face
-
Much more apropos than the nail/coffin scenario.

Are they required to notify voters of disenrollment and is there any clause who validates disenrollment decisions?
-
I believe Ohio sends out not one but two postcards. I'm not saying that I agree with Husted, but States obviously need some ability to purge voter rolls.
-
Thank you. Voter registration was never top of my list to update during relocations across the country or down the road; in fact I don't recall ever updating my registration. States should have some measure of control without a doubt.
-
Cleaning up voter rolls (for people who have moved or died) is one thing. But what happens is that "vigilantes" who don't want "certain people" to vote use the process to purge them:https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/north-carolina-voters_us_581d0356e4b0e80b02ca2471 …
-
We need something in place that prohibits unfair removals of voter rolls. The article indicates the removals were county-level actions?
-
(Possibly) simple resolution: when you get/update your driver's license or state ID card (which *everyone* needs), you're registered. From that point, only purging would be when a license/ID is canceled (new state/death). Also covers that not everyone drives.

Of course not. I picture the GOP as Mr. Torgue from Borderlands. Voter to GOP: Why won't you do <logical thing>? GOP: Because, REASONS! <cheesy air guitar riff>

Oh, I think there’s very little about voter disenfranchisement that’s “inadvertent” here.

After today Ohio is no longer a swing state. The voter suppression and gerrymandering after the 2010 election turned it deep red. Obama won there twice, but that was the old world compared to now, and it's about to get worse. Politicians can place their commercials elsewhere.
